Oh where to start! First of all the Dog's eyes have so much emotion! This is a perfect dog for this shoot. The background has a country feel to it which invites the view into this picture. I love how this has the background blurred it also creates a balance of mystery and helps the viewer focus on the dog and his expressions. The colors of the background also blend well with the Dog's face. I also like the extra touch of green the rope he's chewing on has. Basically this photo is amazing and I hope to see more on this dog.
I'd like to open this with I'm not really a photographer, so while its true a non-cook can tell when something tastes bad, you might want to take any critique I give with a grain of salt! Also the 3.5 stars straight across is because I dislike deviantArt's rating system and I give that to everyone no matter how good. Anyways, onto the actual critique!
Its a good shot and a cute dog! You've actually done a great job making the dog the center of focus, so congrats on that.
The main issue I can see also relates to your focus. I don't know much about photo editing and I don't know what your raw photo looked like, but for future reference I'd advise not letting the edges be so blurred. In the backgrounds its fine, and I actually encourage it, but I think you should have had a bit more focus on the treat and the hand. I realize that the dog is the focus of the image, but he's also smack in the center and facing the camera directly - so even if you unblurred the treat and hand (which I believe would make it clearer what's going on in the image), the focus would still be almost entirely on the dog's face - the hand and treat would be secondary things noticed. It might also actually aid in the focus on the dog because the position of both kind of point 'towards' the dog!
I love the dog's expression though! He looks so very "I love you" and it makes me happy!
